Symantec
/ Norton does not detect Download Accelerator |
 |
We are very happy to inform
that following our communications with Symantec
(the provider of Norton Anti-Virus / Internet
Security) DAP was removed from symantec's list
of threats and is not detected by Symantec's
products
|
 |
We thank our many user who continue to trust
DAP and kept using it during the time we were
corresponding with Symantec. We are glad that
our loyal users can see that they were right
all along, as now also Symantec - one of the
leading vendors in the Security industry -
has decided that DAP can be trusted and should
not be listed on Symantec's threats list .

Make sure to receive Symantec's
June 22nd update.

Regarding DAP and Norton Anti-Virus by
Symantec™
|
 |
We are very happy to inform that
following our communications with Symantec
(the provider of Norton products) the mistaken information
about DAP was corrected.
|
 |
The updated description of DAP's behavior
(click
here) reaffirms that DAP is a standard
ad-supported application that shows advertisement
within the program
window, (no pop-ups, no tracing user activity
etc.), just like other legitimate ad-supported
applications such as MSN
messenger, Opera
Browser, ICQ and AIM.
|
 |
We are now looking forward to having
DAP completely removed from Symantec detection
list. We believe that with your help we can
make this happen sooner:
|
 |
|
By writing
to Symantec, and asking to take
DAP off their detection list (other
legitimate ad-supported applications
e.g. AIM, ICQ, Opera browser, MSN Messenger
etc. are not on the list), you can
make a difference and support Download
Accelerator.
Let your voice be heard. Thanks for your support!
|
|
|
 |
We hope this matter will be resolved shortly
and we will keep you posted with any update,
and we apologize for the inconvenience.

DAP dramatically increases download speed on both Dial-up
and Broadband connections. The "Resume" feature
saves your work in case of disconnects, or allows you to
finish the download at a later time. DAP's customer Service
has always been exceptional.

Faster downloads, can place the download on the place
u want it on yr computer, resume downloads and much much
more But most of all, there is a very very very good support
behind it, u can ask a question and them will get to u,
even if its something that has nothing to do with DAP!!!
I aint bothered by any adds by the way. It is an excelent
product.

| Can
Symantec be wrong about DAP? |
| |
It appears that that Norton Anti-Virus currently warns
its users of DAP. We have looked into the matter and it appears
that Norton Anti-Virus is basing its warning on a wrong description
of DAP.
We are attempting to work out this misunderstanding of DAP's operation with Norton
Anti-Virus - in the meantime, below please find a short description of the inaccuracies
in Norton Anti-Virus reports for our concerned users.
We hope this matter will be resolved shortly, and we apologies for the inconvenience. |

Here's how
DAP was described on Symantec Security Response prior
to May 11 update
|
 |
We've added our comments, so you can decide for yourself:
|
 |
Wrong! |
Norton: "Adware.DAP"
|
 |
Speedbit: DAP free version is an ad-supported
application - just like: Yahoo! Messenger™,
AIM™ etc.,
|
which display ads inside the program window.
|
 |
Wrong! |
Norton: "[Downloads ads to be displayed in:]
your Internet Explorer toolbar"
|
 |
Speedbit: DAP DOES NOT display advertising in
its toolbar.
|
 |
Wrong! |
Norton: "[Downloads ads to be displayed:]....through
pop-up type advertising."
|
 |
SpeedBit: DAP DOES NOT display pop-ups of any
kind.
|
 |

Right! |
Norton: "[DAP] Installs a toolbar"
|
 |
SpeedBit: DAP offers users to install a toolbar
for convenient access to DAP's functionality from
within
|
the browser interface. This is optional Anyone
who has used many applications, such as Yahoo! messenger™,
|
|
ICQ™ and others, knows there is an already-checked
option to download a search and links toolbar.
|
 |

Right! |
Norton: "[Installs] a Browser Helper Object
into the browser"
|
 |
SpeedBit: DAP uses a BHO to enable its functionality
just like other download managers and other application
|
|
such Yahoo! messenger™ and SpyBot - Search & Destroy™.
|
|
| |
We would like to believe that Symantec™ will soon
correct its report with respect to DAP and remove
the misleading information.
