Julie, founder & editor of theFBomb.org is coming to dinner!
Julie Zeilinger, an 18-year-old from Pepper Pike, Ohio and rising First Year at Barnard College, Columbia University is the founder and editor of The FBomb, a feminist blog for teenagers who care about their rights and want to be heard. The FBomb posts the articles of teenage feminists from all over the world about issues such as pop culture and self-image, while also promoting open dialogue about issues like politics and social justice. She is currently writing a book about teenage feminism for Seal Press that is slated for a Spring 2012 release.
How To Accelerate Making Your Voice Heard In The Community
There are many ways to accelerate the process of making your voice heard, but there is one thing that is absolutely essential. Without it, you could spend months, years, or even a lifetime completely unheard.
That essential ingredient is fearlessness.
I love coming across videos of people speaking about a topic they’re really passionate about. For example, the FBomb’s current intern (Angela G) filmed herself advocating for Planned Parenthood and we recently posted a video of a 16-year-old named Andre’a promoting positive body image.
It’s so inspiring to see that totally unadulterated and genuine fire in people – they care so much about something that they just have to record it whether anybody sees it or not.

when dancing?
I belt Tubthumping by Chumbawamba when I care about singing the lyrics correctly and Lichtgestalt by Lacrimosa when I don’t.
If you had asked me this question at any point over the past four years, I would’ve said high school. Now that I just graduated I’m desperately trying to slow everything down.
Although if things like, say, reaching pay equity or eliminating sexual violence could speed up and occur within my lifetime that’d be nice.

I get irritated while waiting if the reason I’m waiting stems back to somebody else’s laziness or close-mindedness. Otherwise, I’m relatively patient.
1. The FBomb (thefbomb.org): this is a complete cop-out because I founded and edit this blog for young feminists, but I don’t know where I’d be / what I’d do without it, so I think it qualifies.
2. Feministing: because it introduced me to the world of feminist blogging and I feel smart every time I read it.
3. Facebook: I’m still a teenager, after all.

Julie Zeilinger, is an inspiration to both younger and older women alike. At such a young age to promote such an important issue shows her true leadership and passion for what she believes in. I cant wait to hear about what she does next!
Thanks, Julie! I find it so interesting to see the great variety of videos that different people enjoy. It’s amazing that you have time to share your thoughts with us, all while writing your book and keeping your blog up-to-date. Keep fighting the good fight!
